Summary of key findings for parents

This provision is good • The manager, who is also the owner, uses feedback from parents, children and staff to help evaluate her service. She uses this information to identify potential improvements and make changes.

The manager also works with the host school to support continuity in children's experiences. For example, the club regularly offers activities which reflect or build on the topics children are learning about in school. • Staff interact with children in a warm manner.

They introduce activities with enthusiasm and praise children's efforts as well as their achievements. Staff join in with children's play skilfully. They ask relevant questions, explore ideas an...d take a genuine interest in what children have to say.

• Staff stretch and extend children's skills and learning. For example, they teach them new techniques in netball and set them challenges. Children demonstrate perseverance and enthusiasm to try new things.

• Staff, some of whom also work in the school, use the same behavioural approach and strategies as the host school. This helps to provide children with consistency and promotes their positive behaviour. • Parents appreciate the healthy snacks and the independence their children enjoy in serving themselves food.

They talk about the variety of activities on offer and how their children enjoy the club so much that they are often reluctant to leave. Parents comment on the positive social interactions their children enjoy and the friendships they build between children of different ages. • Although staff have good opportunities to refresh their skills and knowledge, they are not provided with specific feedback on their individual performance and how they can improve their practice.
