What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children receive a warm welcome when they arrive at the club.

They are keen to see the variety of activities that are on offer and quickly find something to play with. They enthusiastically show visitors to the club the displays on the wall, with photos of puppets they have made. Staff celebrate individual children's artwork with the whole group.

This helps children to develop a sense of belonging. Children's behaviour is exemplary. Staff ensure there is a consistent approach to behaviour.

The children understand the rules for the club are the same as those at school. Children are very polite. They say please and ...thank you without being prompted.

Children develop a healthy lifestyle. They have plenty of opportunities throughout the session to explore outside. With support from the staff, children enjoy using a vast range of resources and develop new skills.

For example, they learn to play tennis with their friends. Children tell visitors to the club they have been learning to skip exclaiming 'I can do 10 skips in a row now'. Children have access to fresh drinking water throughout the session.

They tuck into a healthy snack and request fruit for pudding if they are still hungry.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff encourage children to make their choices about the activities that are provided. They ask children what they enjoy about the club and anything they would like to change.

Children love coming to the club. They tell visitors to the setting 'it is so much fun here'. Children take part in well-organised activities that follow their interests.

Staff know the children they care for very well. They have strong relationships with each other. Staff quickly identify children who need support with behaviour or with settling in.

They support children with playing a board game they are finding challenging. Children smile when they have a go themselves and succeed. Many natural and relaxed conversations take place between children and staff throughout the session.

Staff provide children with a range of creative activities. They use watercolour paints to make pictures of daffodils to give to a family member for Mother's Day. Children carefully use sequins and felt tip pens to make decorations to give as gifts.

They spend sustained periods of time making detailed pictures using beads. Children have access to a vast range of resources, that they can access independently.Children form good friendships and enjoy each other's company.

Older children help younger children to build a construction using magnetic shapes. They praise them as they find different shapes to fit together. Older children enjoy being given responsibility.

For example, one child volunteers to be the 'cloakroom monitor' and provide support to younger children with hanging their coats up.Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the provision the club offers. They comment that the care the club offers is 'exceptional'.

Parents say their children love coming and express disappointment if their parents arrive to collect them early. Parents comment that any messages from school to home are always passed on.Staff support children to develop good hygiene practices.

Children wash their hands before they eat and after using the toilet. Children understand the routines of the club well. They know to sit down when eating and ask staff before leaving the table to carry on playing.

The manager is a very good role model to staff. She shows strong leadership skills. Staff are clear about their roles and responsibilities which means sessions run smoothly.

The manager provides regular supervision meetings, so staff know how to improve their practice. Staff who are new to the club receive a detailed induction. They feel able to approach the manager with any questions or concerns they have.

Staff feel well supported and that their well-being is of high importance.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff have an excellent knowledge of safeguarding.

They have a secure understanding of the signs and symptoms of abuse. Staff know who to report their concerns to. They are secure in their knowledge of the 'Prevent' duty and are vigilant in their monitoring of children's attendance.

Staff knowledge of safeguarding is updated yearly to ensure they know any new information. There are clear procedures in place for recording the attendance of children. Staff supervise children very effectively and ensure they are deployed in all the different areas children use, so they can see children at all times.
