What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision is good

Children enthusiastically arrive at the nursery.

They are excited to meet their friends and are ready to listen and learn. Children have adapted well to routines put in place due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Younger children settle well with nurturing and familiar staff, despite parents not being allowed to enter the nursery currently.

Children are interested in the broad range of activities set out ready for their learning. Staff know each child extremely well. They know children's starting points and what they need to learn next.

Learning is planned to build on what children already know and can d...o. Staff place a huge emphasis on phonics, therefore, children show good progress in their communication, language and understanding. All children are encouraged to manage their own feelings and behaviour.

Staff understand how to do this with even the youngest children. They develop confidence and resilience as staff are very attentive to their needs. Experienced staff work hard to ensure children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, are ready for the next stage in their learning.

Parents are involved in their child's learning and know the staff well. Children are comfortable, happy and safe here.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children benefit from a well-structured educational programme, focusing on building on children's existing knowledge and understanding.

Staff model language and the sounds that letters represent well through activities children enjoy and are interested in. For example, staff discuss the football match that children are excited about, and link this to numbers and counting. However, there are times when the noise levels distract other children's learning, which impacts on their concentration and levels of engagement.

Staff ensure all children are ready for the next stage in their learning. They do this by using the in-depth knowledge they have about each child. They know what they need to learn next and, in particular, how each child learns best.

Occasionally, there are additional opportunities to extend children's learning that staff do not identify, for example after physical exercise. The nursery aims to give all children the same opportunities, as they recognise some have different experiences than others. Physical exercise sessions are accessible to all children.

Children learn about different cultures and languages. This helps children understand different communities and enables children to benefit from learning they may not otherwise have.Staff engage younger children in activities focusing on feelings and emotions.

They use mirrors to help children recognise a sad or happy face. They model facial expressions and use their voice to demonstrate excitement and sadness; children respond by copying this. This helps children begin to understand how to recognise and regulate their own feelings and behaviour.

Children take part in regular exercise sessions, including daily morning 'wake up' sessions. This helps children to understand the value and impact of being active, as staff join in. Children and parents benefit from an established and experienced key-person system.

They form positive relationships which enables children to build confidence in their abilities. The management team regularly reflect on and review staff performance. They support the team well and promote staff professional development.

The management team identify areas of improvement and share this with the team. Staff report they have a manageable workload, and managers are always available to support them, when necessary. The manager is aware of the notification processes she must follow.

However, she has failed to notify Ofsted of a significant event within the timescale required. The manager recognised her error and it has been rectified, therefore, no further action is required.Parents are incredibly happy with the care, education and flexibility the nursery offers.

Sessions are tailored around families needs. Parents report that this helps with their personal routines and economic well-being. Parents are kept informed of their child's progress and know what their next steps in learning are.

They speak very highly of staff communication and appreciate how hard they work.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff have good knowledge of how to identify children who may be at risk of harm.

Embedded procedures are in place to ensure staff are aware of concerns and a clear reporting process is in place. Staff know who to report to and local procedures that follow this. All staff have up-to-date safeguarding training and this includes wider safeguarding issues.

They know who to contact if they are concerned about a colleague's conduct. The nursery is safe and secure, and risk assessments are in place.

What does the setting need to do to improve?

To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: support consistency in teaching with all staff and help them to recognise appropriate adaptations to learning in the environment, to strengthen children's concentration and level of engagement nensure learning is extended where opportunities arise, to ensure children build on their existing knowledge and skills as much as possible.
