What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision is good

Children receive a warm and friendly welcome as they arrive happily at this small, nurturing setting.

As a bilingual nursery, staff plan and implement an interesting curriculum based on both the early years foundation stage and the French framework. Staff immerse the children in both French and English throughout the day, helping children develop an understanding of both languages, even if they are not yet able to express themselves verbally.Children's behaviour is good.

They know the routines of their room and wait patiently for their turn at activities. Children respond promptly to reminders about sharing. Staff supp...ort children to understand their feelings and emotions, talking to them and using visual resources they can relate to.

They have high expectations for the children. Children enjoy looking at pictures of their families displayed on the wall. This helps children to feel secure during their settling in and supports children in understanding differences between people and families.

Staff help children to feel safe and secure during settling in or if they become upset by offering cuddles and sitting them on their laps to share books or explore a toy.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Parents are very happy with the care and educational experiences they receive at the nursery. They comment that communication is very strong, and they are grateful for the daily information they receive via the online system.

Parents are kept well informed about their children's progress and know what they are learning during their time at the nursery. Parents speak positively of the gradual settling-in process and feel they are well supported during this time. They are welcomed into the nursery each morning to take their children to their rooms and are invited in throughout the year to celebrate special days, such as the Mother's Day breakfast.

Overall, children enjoy fresh air and plenty of opportunities for physical exercise indoors and out. They take part in weekly yoga sessions and regularly enjoy completing obstacle courses where they climb over large, soft blocks and crawl through tunnels. This helps the development of their gross motor skills.

Children are encouraged to navigate the obstacle courses in their own way, supporting them to problem solve. The toddlers share the garden with the independent school. Since the school's inspection, the staff team has introduced more resources to their outdoor area, such as sensory experiences.

However, the outdoor area still does not fully support children to consistently benefit from rich experiences across all areas of learning.Children are encouraged to be independent throughout the day. They feed themselves with a spoon, fetch their own water bottles, help to tidy up and try to put on their coats and shoes.

Staff are highly attentive and support the children when required. Children receive lots of praise and encouragement, which builds their self-esteem. Children behave very well.

Staff monitor children's progress through regular observations. They know their children well and speak of their achievements since starting at the nursery. Staff plan purposeful activities, which reinforce and build on what children have previously learned.

For example, they roll coloured cars through black paint and make marks on white paper to learn the black and white colour names in French and English. Children confidently recall the colour names from previous learning in a past activity.Staff report they feel well supported and can discuss issues with the headteacher.

They attend regular supervision meetings, where they set targets for improvement and discuss children's next steps. There are a variety of online training courses available for staff to develop their practice.Staff develop children's understanding of different cultures and celebrate special occasions, such as Chinese New Year and Valentines Day.

To help promote a love of reading, children celebrate World Book Day by bringing in photos of themselves reading stories at home with their family and dressing up as their favourite book character.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff understand the importance of keeping children safe.

They are aware of the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of abuse or neglect and know the procedures to follow should they have a concern about a child's safety or well-being. Thorough recruitment and vetting procedures are in place to ensure that all staff are suitable to work with children. Staff risk assess daily, ensuring children are able to play in a safe and secure environment.

Procedures for signing children in and out of the nursery are robust. Staff complete regular safeguarding and paediatric first-aid training.

What does the setting need to do to improve?

To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: develop the outdoor provision even further to provide a rich environment that encompasses all areas of learning.
