What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision is outstanding

Children at the Rainbow Centre very clearly show they feel exceptionally safe in the staff's warm and attentive care. They build extremely strong bonds with the staff and other children. Children very enthusiastically greet their friends when they arrive in the morning and help them to settle in rapidly, sharing their excitement and making them feel welcome.

Children are remarkably kind and caring to each other. They help other children access their special equipment and take notice of their friends' views and opinions. Children develop an excellent sense of pride and achievement in the small steps they make in their lea...rning.

Children display very high levels of confidence and curiosity. They are exceptionally self-motivated and keep on trying to complete tasks. Staff plan inspirational activities for children to engage them in a highly supportive learning environment.

Children explore shaving foam and take part in enthralling and sensory storytelling sessions. They show sheer delight in the playful manner in which staff engage them in learning about feelings and emotions using mirrors. Children make exceptional progress across all areas of learning through a curriculum that is securely embedded within the Conductive Education programme.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff know the children extremely well. Meticulous attention to detail helps staff know exactly what children can already do and what they need help to achieve. Staff are highly skilled and use their knowledge very effectively to support children's learning to the highest levels.

They help children acquire the essential skills they need to move on to the next stage of their education.Children enjoy many social interactions. Lunch, for example, is unhurried and children relish the opportunity to communicate with their familiar adults.

Staff are extremely positive role models with very high expectations of what children can do. Children show exceptionally good manners and their behaviour is exemplary.Staff provide children with the widest range of opportunities to learn about the wider world.

They recognise that children cannot always access activities and experiences, so they ensure that these opportunities come to the children at the Rainbow Centre. Outings to local farms and sensory theatre visits to the Centre help children understand more about different people and communities.Children display very positive attitudes to each other, the staff and their learning.

They very clearly enjoy the many activities that staff lead. Staff skilfully adapt activities to meet all children's individual learning needs. Children thrive in the staff's excellent care.

Children are supported very effectively to develop their own methods of communication, using spoken words, signs, symbols, switches or eye gaze. Staff understand how children learn. They use simple, repetitive language for children to hear and very clearly model communication skills to the highest levels.

All children are empowered to make choices and decisions. Staff are extremely sensitive to children's needs. They obviously respect children and support their emotional development to a significantly high level.

Staff place a very high emphasis on supporting children's physical development. They help children to develop skills to enable their independence at every possible opportunity. Children learn about good hygiene as they wash their hands before eating and breathe deeply in the fresh air.

This supports them to develop a healthy lifestyle.Parents comment on the incredible support they and their children receive. Excellent communication from staff means that parents are fully involved and informed at every step of their children's learning.

Staff work exceptionally closely with other professionals involved with children to ensure very high levels of continuity for children's care and learning.The manager is exceptionally passionate about her role. She is an outstanding role model to staff and has very high expectations for staff and what children can achieve in their care.

The manager is highly reflective and is continually looking for ideas to develop and improve the Rainbow Centre and the outcomes for children.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.The manager ensures that all staff attend regular safeguarding training.

She keeps their skills current by extensive discussions at staff meetings. Staff fully understand their roles in keeping all children safe at all times. They know the procedures to follow if they have any concerns about children, their families or another member of staff.

The manager follows extremely robust staff recruitment procedures. She ensures that staff complete a thorough induction period. The manager regularly checks that all staff are suitable to work with children.
