What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children show that they are happy and enjoy their time at the club. They arrive full of enthusiasm and are seen laughing and chatting with their friends.

Children clearly know the routines. They demonstrate that they feel safe, as they move around the environment with ease. Children behave well and have good friendships with each other.

For instance, children have fun playing medics. Their imaginations come to life as they laugh and chatter about different reasons why they are at hospital. Children and staff clearly have a good relationship.

Children are heard at the inspection talking happily with staff about the...ir day at school. Staff recognise and support children's individual needs well. For instance, children who do not want to take part in a large group activity are offered alternative play.

They happily sit in the den to look at books or use quieter spaces to explore and build with construction. Staff are good role models and play and interact with the children purposefully, skilfully interweaving learning and discussing subjects that the children are be taught at school.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff know the children well.

They talk about the progress the children have made since starting at the club and how they are supporting them. Children and staff interact well together. They have fun and children show staff are important to them as they invite them into their play.

Children enjoy a good range of activities and events at the club, which allows them time to play with others and unwind after a day at school. For example, children enjoy being creative as they create and make pictures using different forms of arts and crafts, such as buttons and feathers.Staff support children's imagination skills very well and enhance children's creative thinking.

They play with the children and become absorbed in their ideas and make-believe play. For example, staff talk about how children have 'hurt' themselves whilst they are waiting in the 'hospital' queue. Staff support children's thinking skills as they talk to the children about what they need to fix the vehicles and why they are broken.

Staff support children's self-confidence and emotional behaviour well. They offer children praise and encouragement as they play, talk and manage tasks by themselves. This builds children's confidence and helps them to learn how to manage behaviours.

Staff ensure children are provided with a healthy snack and light tea, which the children clearly enjoy. Staff support children's health effectively as they talk to the children about keeping hydrated. This helps children to understand the importance of looking after their own well-being.

Mealtimes are a sociable time where staff are on hand to support and engage children in conversations. However, staff do not effectively ensure areas where children eat are cleaned, and some children move around safety when eating. This does not consistently support their understanding of healthy practices that help promote their wellbeing, safety and good hygiene.

Staff understand the importance of working in close partnership with the teachers in the school. They work closely together to share information about children's care and learning needs and communicate effectively together so that updates about children's welfare are regularly exchanged.Staff comment that they feel well supported by the leadership team.

They state that they have regular supervision meetings and training opportunities which help them to enhance their practice and skills.Parents speak positively about the club. They comment that their children are happy, that they love to come to the club and that they enjoy playing games.

Parents receive a good overview of what their children have done at the club, and they benefit from regular information which is shared with them.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff are confident in their roles and responsibilities to keep children safe.

They know the signs and indicators that could signify that a child is at risk of harm. Furthermore, staff understand the referral procedures to follow if they have any concerns. Good procedures are in place to ensure that the provision used is safe and secure.

For example, staff are well deployed to ensure that all children are within sight and hearing and regular risk assessments are undertaken to ensure that the environment is safe. Leaders implement robust recruitment and vetting procedures. These help to ensure that all staff working with children are suitable to do so.
