What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision does not meet requirements Children's welfare is compromised. There is not always a person on site who is paediatric first-aid trained.

This is a breach of the statutory requirements. The provider does not ensure that staff in charge of the setting are secure in their knowledge of safeguarding. Not all staff know the procedures to follow if they have concerns about a member of staff and who to report their concerns to.

Children are happy and settled in the setting. Staff provide a warm welcome when children arrive. Children are happy to see their activity leaders.

This demonstrates secure relationships. Children are respectful to th...eir peers and the adults. Staff engage in activities with the children where they model behavioural expectations, such as turn taking and cooperation.

Staff teach children about 'World Children's Day' and encourage the children to take part in the discussions. They make certificates to celebrate. Children who prefer to take part in quiet activities, choose puzzles and balancing games supported by an adult.

The philosophy of the setting is 'actively happy kids'. Staff provide nutritious meals inline with the schools healthy food programme. They provide opportunities for children to choose and self-select resources.

This enables children to be independent. Children learn how to lead healthy lifestyles, are active and enjoy the activities they engage in. Staff encourage children to drink and stay hydrated, especially when they are playing sports.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The provider does not ensure that they are meeting all safeguarding and welfare requirements. This compromises children's well-being. For instance, they do not ensure that there is always a member of staff on site qualified to administer first aid in the event of an accident or injury.

Although, staff receive safeguarding training this has not been successful in ensuring all staff understand their role in keeping children safe from harm. The setting works in partnership with parents and other professionals. Parents feel that their children enjoy coming to the after-school club and the range of activities is good.

They especially like coming to see their friends and enjoy the food. There are strong communication links between the school the children attend and the after-school club. Important information about the well-being of the children is shared.

Children talk animatedly about their favourite activities. A highlight for the children is taking part in a general knowledge quiz. The provider plans for all age ranges and offers a wide range of arts, crafts, games and sporting sessions.

Children are motivated and engaged in their chosen activities.Staff encourage children to be active and support their physical health. Children engage in exercise sessions such as building core strength and take part in gross motor challenges.

Children behave well. They look out for each other and work collaboratively on games and activities. The provider is reflective and seeks the views of others, such as parents.

He evaluates the activities provided to ensure there is a wide range for all age groups who attend the setting.Staff carry out risk assessments before the children arrive to make sure the hall and toilets are clean and free of any hazards. This helps to ensure that any risks to children are minimised and that children can enjoy playing safely.

The provider ensures that children attending have the opportunity to unwind after a school day. He seeks the views of the children and activity leaders to ensure that he is providing a fun and interesting environment for children that keeps them fully engaged.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

Breaches to the early years safeguarding and welfare requirements have compromised children's well-being. There is not always at least one paediatric first aider on site at all times. Staff also do not have secure understanding of how to safeguard children, particularly if an allegation is made about another member of staff.

The provider has systems in place to ensure that staff remain suitable to work with children. Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks are in place for all staff.

What does the setting need to do to improve?

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date ensure there is at least one member of staff who holds a full and relevant paediatric first-aid qualification on site at all times 28/11/2023 ensure that all staff understand the safeguarding policy and the procedures to follow if they have concerns about an adult working with children 28/11/2023 ensure that all staff attend effective safeguarding training, so they understand their role in keeping children safe from harm.
