The school is smaller than the average-sized primary school. Most pupils are White British and come from Longstanton village. The proportion of pupils known to be eligible for free school meals is broadly average and the proportion of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs is below the national figure. At the last inspection the school was given notice to improve because significant improvement was required in pupils’ achievement. Attainment in 2011 did not meet the government’s current floor standard, which sets the minimum expectations for pupils’ attainment and progress. A monitoring inspection in October 2011 judged that the school had made inadequate progress in making improvement. Since November 2011, following the departure of the substantive headteacher, the school has been led by the executive headteacher, and the support and guidance from the local authority has been enhanced significantly by local primary and secondary schools. |
