Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Focused and determined leadership has led to improvements to all aspects of the school's work. Plans for improvement are ambitious and have raised expectations of staff and pupils. Leaders' reliable moderation and assessment of teaching and learning have ensured that teachers have a clear understanding of what they need to do to improve their teaching.

Subject leaders have a clear understanding of the strengths and areas for development in their subject. They have clear plans to bring about change and make improvements. Teachers encourage pupils to choose their own level of challenge in mathematics and push themselves to achieve more.

Pup...ils are becoming more determined to achieve more than they thought they could. Staff have a good understanding of the needs of the pupils. Well-targeted and carefully monitored support for disadvantaged pupils and pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities ensures that these pupils make the progress that they should.

Pupils are polite and well mannered. The school's values are at the heart of the curriculum and pupils understand that different people live different lives. They are well prepared for life in modern Britain.

Leaders understand the need to promote physical health. Staff and pupils value sport and physical education. A wide range of sporting clubs are available during the school day and after school.

Leaders have been decisive in tackling incidents of bullying and discriminatory language. Pupils say that they feel safe and that when incidents do happen staff deal with them well. Expectations of the work that pupils can achieve has increased.

Teachers use assessment to set work at the right standard. However, on occasions the most able pupils do not receive sufficiently challenging work. Behaviour in lessons is good.

However, occasionally teaching assistants are less consistent in applying the behaviour policy when leading small-group activities. As a result, some pupils do not focus on the tasks that they have been set. The proportion of pupils achieving the expected standard in reading has increased.

However, teachers do not develop pupils' comprehension and inference enough for pupils to make greater progress.
