Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher has brought about rapid improvements since the previous inspection.

Governors provide effective challenge for the school. They know the school well and are determined to ensure that improvements are made. Leaders make good use of additional pupil premium and physical education funding to raise pupils' achievements.

Subject leaders have received effective support and training. However, they do not effectively monitor the outcomes for the most able pupils. Pupils' outcomes have improved since the last inspection and are now good.

Attainment is rising rapidly across the school. Pupils are making good progress in read...ing, writing and mathematics. The quality of pupils' writing is, however, sometimes reduced by poor handwriting and an insufficient focus on pupils applying spelling strategies within all ranges of their writing.

The curriculum is engaging and interesting and motivates pupils to learn. Teaching has improved since the last inspection and is now good. However, in some classes work is not challenging enough for the most able pupils, including the most able disadvantaged pupils.

In some lessons, teachers do not spot when pupils are ready to move on to the next stage in their learning. Phonics is taught well across the early years and key stage 1, helping pupils to learn to read quickly. The early years setting is a happy, nurturing environment and children make good progress from their starting points.

Pupils are kept safe and are well cared for. Their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is strong. Pupils' behaviour is good and pupils are polite, courteous and respectful to each other.

Pupils have a strong understanding of how to keep themselves safe and healthy. Teaching assistants work effectively with pupils to accelerate their learning. This is particularly the case with disadvantaged pupils and those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.
