Subject leaders do not have a complete understanding of the quality of teaching and learning in their subject. Occasionally, teachers do not match some work for the most-able and less-able pupils to their abilities precisely enough.

This leads to some misbehaviour and lost learning time. Sometimes pupils do not have the opportunity to apply their knowledge of science by working scientifically.
