Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Leaders, including governors, have taken rapid and effective action to move the school forward since the previous inspection. Leaders set realistic targets for improvement and provide staff with the support they need to do their jobs well. The curriculum is planned carefully to help pupils to acquire key skills.

Most pupils now make good progress in a range of subjects, including reading and writing. Pupils' progress in mathematics is improving strongly, although outcomes are not yet as good as in reading and writing. Teaching is good.

Staff provide good opportunities for pupils to talk about their learning and to explain their answers. P...upils' behaviour is good and pupils say that they feel safe. There is a strong sense of community and pupils willingly play their part.

Relationships are good. Pupils' personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is promoted well. There are good systems to check pupils' progress and to identify those in danger of falling behind.

However, leaders could use progress information more effectively to gain an overview of the progress made by disadvantaged pupils and pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities. The monitoring role of some subject leaders is not yet fully established. Sometimes, teachers do not give pupils, especially the most able, tasks that help them to reach their full potential or give enough guidance on what is expected by the end of lessons.
