Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher and his senior leadership team have turned the school around since the previous inspection.

They have secured extensive improvements in the quality of teaching, learning and assessment. Senior leaders and governors have fully addressed the key issues for improvement identified at the time of the previous inspection. The school now provides a good-quality education for all groups of pupils.

Consistently effective teaching ensures that learning builds strongly on pupils' starting points across the school. Pupils' progress has improved substantially in the past two years. As a result, standards are higher in all year groups t...han they were at the time of the previous inspection.

The early years leader has secured notable improvements in the quality of early years provision. Children settle extremely well into school life and make rapid progress. Pupils' excellent behaviour makes a strong contribution to their learning and to the school's welcoming atmosphere.

Governors have taken concerted and successful action to improve their contribution to school developments. They support and challenge school leaders effectively. Parents and carers are highly complimentary about the school's work.

One parent reflected the views expressed by many when she commented, 'The school has improved immeasurably since the previous inspection.' Pupils regularly complete work of a high standard in English and mathematics. However, the quality of their work and their progress in other subjects is more variable.

Strong subject leadership in English and mathematics has ensured better teaching and learning in these subjects. However, leadership in the foundation subjects, such as history and geography, is at an early stage of development. While teaching has improved since the previous inspection, a few variations in teachers' use of questioning remain.

Some teachers use questioning more effectively than others to explore and extend pupils' learning during lessons.

Information about this school

The school is smaller than the average-sized primary school. The proportion of pupils supported by the pupil premium is much lower than that found in most primary schools.

The proportion of pupils who have SEN and/or disabilities is in line with the national average. Most pupils are White British. The proportion of pupils who speak English as an additional language is below the national average.

Pupils are taught in mixed-age classes, with the exception of Year 6. A statutory inspection of Anglican and Methodist schools (SIAMS) was carried out on 20 September 2016, when the distinctiveness and effectiveness of the school as a Church of England School was judged 'satisfactory'. The school meets the government's current floor standards for 2017, which set the minimum expectation for pupils' attainment and progress in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6.
