Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher, who joined the school in September 2017, provides excellent leadership for the school. She has reversed the decline in standards that occurred after the last inspection and ensures that expectations of staff and pupils are high.

Leaders and governors have an accurate view of the quality of education the school provides. They are uncompromising in their pursuit of excellence for all their pupils. The standards that pupils achieve across the school are good.

Children do well in the Reception class. This is because it is well led, and staff have high expectations. Links with parents and carers are strong.

The teachi...ng of early reading is a strength of the school. All pupils achieved the expected standard in phonics in Year 1 in Summer 2018. New approaches to the teaching of mathematics and English are beginning to have a positive impact on standards.

However, these new initiatives are not yet fully embedded across the school. Most teaching is effective, and some is outstanding. Pupils enjoy learning in interesting, attractive classrooms where skilled staff care for them well.

Pupils are well behaved. Relationships between pupils and between adults and pupils are excellent. The school has a broad, balanced and interesting curriculum that helps pupils understand the world around them.

The school's work to develop pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness is strong. Staff provide pupils with opportunities to explore this awareness through many extra-curricular clubs and activities. Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) receive effective support.

They achieve well from their starting points. Disadvantaged pupils are carefully supported. The school works effectively to minimise barriers to the learning and well-being of these pupils.

Pupils are encouraged to stay fit and healthy and to take part in a wide range of sporting activities. Safeguarding is effective. Staff and governors receive appropriate, up-to-date training that provides them with the knowledge and skills to keep pupils safe.

Information about this school

This is a smaller-than-average-sized primary school. The vast majority of pupils are of White British heritage. At around 4%, the proportion of pupils with SEND is below the national average.

There is a nursery which operates mornings only. It provides part-time provision for 26 children. The current headteacher has been in post since September 2017.
