This is a good school The headteacher has successfully created a strong, harmonious community at St Mary's. Pupils are understanding of others at all times. Staff care deeply about creating a culture where each pupil is valued as an individual.
The headteacher leads by example and has successfully brought about sustained improvement to the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, which are now good. Leaders, including governors, have worked well with the local authority to support the school to bring about necessary changes. Staff know pupils well and use this knowledge to plan appropriately challenging learning and provide timely interventions.
These app...roaches are enabling pupils to achieve high standards in their work. Pupils typically make good progress in reading, writing and mathematics in key stage 1 and key stage 2. Year 6 pupils have made much improved progress in this academic year.
Early years provides a rich learning environment, giving children a good start in their education. Pupils behave well and are welcoming to new members of the school. They have a strong sense of right and wrong.
Pupils do not accept discrimination of any kind. Parents and carers are happy with the quality of education provided. Many have chosen St Mary's for the community feel and individualised care and support for each child.
Leaders make sure pupils access a range of cultural experiences. Pupils can talk confidently about issues affecting people elsewhere in the world. In this small school, despite measures to reduce absence, a small number of children miss too much schooling.
Pupils access a range of extra-curricular activities. Keeping healthy is emphasised, with skipping forming a regular start to the school day. While funding from the physical education and sport premium has supported this, it has not yet been fully spent and could further enhance active learning.
