Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The current leadership team knows the school well.

They have worked fastidiously to address the previous decline in standards, most notably in mathematics in key stage 2. As a result, current pupils are making strong progress. School leaders and governors are determined to return to outstanding provision and outcomes.

Strategic decision making is backed up solidly by careful research and thorough analysis of information. The re-designed curriculum ensures that every pupil has broad experiences across a wide range of subjects that are relevant to their ages and needs. Subjects are led by confident middle leaders who have good subject knowl...edge and a clear understanding of the good progress pupils are making in their subjects.

The raft of carefully implemented teaching strategies in mathematics has had a positive impact on pupils' outcomes, particularly in key stage 1. Leaders have precise plans to ensure continued improvement in all pupils' progress, and particularly for those who are most able. Phonics is taught well.

Pupils apply their skills successfully to reading and writing. A higher than national proportion reach the phonics standard by the end of Year 1. Children in early years get a safe and happy start to school life.

A greater proportion than the national average reach a good level of development by the end of Reception. However, considering their positive starting points, very few children exceed the early learning goals in all areas of the curriculum. Pupils have frequent opportunities to try out their writing skills.

The focused direction teachers and teaching assistants give pupils in how to draft, edit and improve their ideas results in strong writing outcomes across the school. The staff team's relentless work to support the welfare and well-being needs of all pupils is a strength of the school. Pupils' conduct throughout the day is excellent.

Pupils and adults treat each other with kindness and respect and are proud to be part of the Stallingborough family. However, pupils' pride in their work is not as apparent. Expectations in the presentation of pupils' work, particularly in subjects other than English and mathematics, are not high enough.

Pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and those who are disadvantaged are well supported in their learning and make good progress. Safeguarding is effective.
