Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The care, compassion and commitment of the headteacher and her staff underpin the positive and trusting relationships they have with pupils. This supports pupils to develop the emotional resilience and social skills they need to become independent young people.

Pupils make good progress from their different starting points. As a result, outcomes continue to improve, especially for disadvantaged pupils. The curriculum supports pupils to learn effectively.

Staff plan high-quality learning tasks to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in a range of situations and contexts. Pupils behave well. Staff respond effectively to pupils ...when they are anxious.

This maintains a purposeful and positive learning environment. Pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education. They experience work-related learning and can talk confidently about their hopes for the future.

Parents support the school and recognise the work of the school leaders and governors to enhance the opportunities and outcomes for their child. They feel well informed and listened to. Governance is effective.

Governors prioritise areas for improvement and hold leaders to account. Underperformance is challenged quickly. As a result, teaching and learning across the school are good.

Pupils feel happy and safe. As pupils progress through the school they acquire the skills and understanding to keep themselves healthy and safe. School leaders have taken effective action to improve the attendance for all groups, including those who are disadvantaged.

The teaching of the youngest pupils does not build on pupils' prior skills, knowledge and understanding sufficiently. This slows their progress. Teaching does not always challenge the most able pupils to move on quickly in their learning.

This limits the opportunity for pupils to achieve their best in phonics, writing and aspects of mathematics. Sometimes support staff miss opportunities to develop learning further. Pupils' understanding and progression of skills in mathematics, including calculation and problem-solving, are sometimes underdeveloped.
