Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Leaders have high expectations for staff and pupils. They have successfully addressed the areas for improvement from the last inspection.

Governors have an accurate overview of the school's performance. They are effective in holding leaders to account. Parents and carers are overwhelmingly positive about the quality of education the school provides.

The vast majority who responded to the online survey said that they would recommend the school to others. Safeguarding is effective. Leaders, staff and governors are united and proactive in their approach to keeping pupils safe.

The quality of teaching has improved significantly. This... has resulted in improved outcomes for pupils, especially in mathematics. Teachers encourage pupils to learn from their mistakes.

As a result, pupils are becoming increasingly resilient and confident learners. Pupils' behaviour is good. Their conduct around school is consistently calm and courteous.

Pupils who spoke with inspectors confirmed that they feel safe from all forms of bullying. They have confidence in staff to handle any issues that may arise. Attainment in key stage 1 is typically in line with that seen nationally.

Progress and attainment at the end of key stage 2 improved significantly in 2018. Leadership and teaching in the early years are good. Children make a smooth start to their learning and are well prepared for the demands of Year 1.

Leaders have not used outcomes of their monitoring checks to successfully eliminate some small pockets of weaker teaching. Occasionally, when teachers do not give clear instructions or when their questioning is not precise, pupils lose focus in lessons and their learning slows. The teaching of reading is an area of focus for the school.

Attainment in reading is lower than in writing and mathematics, in most year groups.
