Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Castell-nedd is a designated Welsh-medium school that serves the Neath area in Neath Port Talbot authority. English is introduced formally at the school at the beginning of key stage 2.

There are 312 full-time pupils on roll, and 72 part-time nursery children. Pupils are taught in eight classes in the Foundation Phase and six classes in key stage 2, and 14 teachers are employed, including the headteacher. Seventy-two per cent (72%) of pupils are from English-speaking homes, and therefore only 28% are from Welsh-speaking homes.

Very few pupils are from an ethnic minority background and around 11% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, which is considerably lower than the national average. At pre...sent, around 11% of pupils are on the additional learning needs register and no pupils have a statement of special educational needs. The headteacher was appointed in September 2006 and the school was last inspected in November 2012.
