What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision is outstanding

The nursery school is truly valued as the heart of the local community. The children have an incredible sense of belonging in the nursery school and community alike.

They enjoy positively contributing to community events. The manager and her team create an exceedingly warm and welcoming environment where children demonstrate that they feel incredibly happy and secure. Teaching is of an exceptionally high quality.

The manager and staff have designed an excellent curriculum based on the children's individual needs, experiences and prior learning. Staff precisely implement this curriculum and have high expectations... of every child. This helps all children to achieve at the highest level and to develop outstanding knowledge and skills for school.

Children are offered an inspiring range of activities that quickly capture their interest and help them develop a positive attitude to learning. They are extremely confident and keen, and display a can-do attitude. Outside, children work together harmoniously to mix a range of collected, natural materials und use these as 'cement'.

They successfully construct a 'brick wall' in the role-play construction site. Children take account of the ideas other children contribute because they have strong peer relationships. They work out how to make an effective consistency of the cement by adding water.

Staff are exceptionally skilled at interacting with children. Children learn new vocabulary and staff improve children's pronunciation of sounds by repeating words back to them modelling the correct pronunciation. Children gain outstanding communication, language and literacy skills in English, and also gain valuable skills in hearing and speaking French during weekly French sessions.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Partnership working with parents is excellent. Staff share daily information with parents via the online communication system and through discussions and conversations. Parents express their utmost satisfaction with the nursery.

They describe how settled and happy their children are. Parents say the staff are 'fantastic' and go 'above and beyond'. Additional funding is used exceedingly well to benefit individual children in their learning and development.

Staff have high expectations for all children. They provide them with continuous support and praise for their achievements, enabling children to build confidence and self-esteem. As a result, children's behaviour is exemplary.

They show extremely positive attitudes to learning. Children develop extremely secure relationships with staff, especially with their key person.Staff develop children's understanding through high-quality interactions.

During activities, staff ask children challenging questions to develop their problem- solving skills, for instance, how they can retrieve toy bugs from the frozen ice blocks. They ask children to make predictions about what will happen to the materials in the vice as they turn the handle to tighten it even more. Children are self-assured and make their own decisions as the staff give them appropriate time to work through their ideas.

Children also understand how to keep themselves safe, such as wearing safety goggles when using the real tools. The committee and manager have a clear vision for the nursery school. Through highly effective self-evaluation, they have maintained the outstanding standards of practice since the last inspection.

The committee successfully encourages the leader to provide a challenging curriculum. For example, ways to enhance children's sensory and scientific exploration have been highly effective. Children have benefited from an outdoor sensory den and a role-play planetarium in the garden log cabin.

Through effective organisation, the manager ensures staff workload is manageable and direct teaching and guiding of children's learning remains staff's utmost priority.Children attending the nursery school have a love of stories. They immerse themselves in the small-group activity programme that includes a lovable, familiar book character.

They listen intently to the staff and react with delight as they repeat their favourite parts of familiar stories. Staff use opportunities extremely well to enable children to predict familiar sounds and rhymes, and learn about letters and the sounds they make. Children make outstanding progress in their communication, language and literacy skills.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Managers and staff have an excellent understanding of child protection issues. They are familiar with the procedure to take prompt and efficient action should they have any concerns about children's welfare.

Staff are confident with the whistle-blowing policy and procedures for reporting allegations. They supervise children well and ensure a safe environment is maintained for the children. Staff have a very good understanding of the signs that may indicate a child may be at risk of harm, including from radical and extreme views.
