What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Staff warmly welcome children into the club. Children demonstrate good levels of independence. They serve their own snack from the healthy selection staff provide.

Staff sit with children during snacks and talk to them about their day. They know the children well, what their interests are and how to support their play. Staff are attentive and ensure children who have recently started at the club have familiar activities available.

This helps children to settle quickly into the club. Younger children have a good relationship with their key person. Consequently, children are confident to seek help and reassurance if they nee...d it.

Children enjoy a wide range of creative activities. They use their imagination and design creatures from clay. Staff support children's well-being, listening to children and valuing their opinions and ideas.

They invite children to have a go when they suggest new activities. Staff recall previous conversations with children and show genuine interest in what the children have been doing outside the club. Staff encourage children to share their experiences with their friends too.

Children listen to one another's views and opinions. Children demonstrate respectful and polite behaviour towards each other and adults.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Leaders and staff reflect on practice and listen to children's, parents' and staff's views.

Leaders provide staff with ongoing training and support to enhance their knowledge and skills further. Staff state that they enjoy working at the club and feel well supported by the leadership team.The manager deploys staff to make sure that all children receive the support they need.

For example, staff position themselves, so they can see the children independently using the washrooms. One member of staff is constantly in the outside area to make sure that children are happy and engaged in their play. Other staff engage in children's play inside.

Leaders and staff are clear on the importance of play for the children at the club. Children are happy to share their experiences and say the club is fun and they particularly enjoy playing chess with the staff and their friends.Children learn about healthy lifestyles, supporting them to understand the importance of healthy, nutritious snacks and the effect physical exercise has on their bodies.

They benefit from healthy snacks and good opportunities to develop their physical skills in the outside area.Staff involve children when planning to ensure that activities meet their different interests. For example, children talk with excitement as they mix and stretch the ingredients to make their own 'slime'.

Other children concentrate while playing board games with their friends and staff. These opportunities help children to be curious and engage in their chosen play and activities.The manager works in partnership with the teaching staff in the host school where the club is based.

There is a good exchange of information to help meet children's needs.Staff remind children of the rules, such as respecting resources and washing their hands before eating. Children's behaviour is good.

They are respectful to each other and staff.Staff respect that children have had a busy day at school. They plan play opportunities, such as outdoor play, where children can use the play equipment, footballs and goals.

Staff discuss how to organise games together. They demonstrate teamwork as they agree the rules to their football game. Children play fairly, showing respect for each other.

They show great delight when scoring a goal against their friends and staff. This enables children to develop their skills and have fun.Children show good levels of independence.

They choose their own activities, meet their personal care needs and collect their own belongings at the end of the session. Staff encourage children to tidy up the toys towards the end of the club.Parents report on the 'excellent' care their children receive.

They speak of the friendly staff and the good communication they receive from them.
