What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are extremely settled in the safe, comfortable and welcoming environment.

Staff are exceptionally kind and have developed secure relationships with all children. Children are allocated a key person who is responsible for their care and well-being. The well-qualified and highly-skilled staff know the children extremely well and provide a vast array of interesting activities.

These are based on children's interests. Children choose whether to be inside or outside and staff make sure they are always appropriately supervised to help to keep them safe. Children have a comfortable, quiet area where they can relax if the...y are tired.

They enjoy reading books in the cosy corner. Children's behaviour is exemplary. They play very well together.

Older children invite younger children into their play, and they share and take turns without any reminders. Staff are positive role models and they value the uniqueness of every child as an individual. They are caring and patient.

Staff work very well as a team. They take a genuine interest in what children do and say, striving to provide the best possible experiences for them.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Partnerships with parents and teachers in the school are strong.

Staff are extremely effective communicators and meet the needs of the children very well. Staff who work in both the school and club share experiences and knowledge of the children to build strong continuity between the school and the club.There is a strong focus on supporting emotional well-being.

All children, including those with special educational needs, settle in well to the club. They show high levels of enthusiasm and confidence at the setting.Children thoroughly enjoy the activities available to them, particularly the opportunities to be creative.

They confidently use scissors as they cut materials to make models. Children demonstrate high levels of independence. They make choices in their play and know where to find the resources they need to carry out their interests.

For example, children go to find colouring pencils to add colour to the models they make. Staff introduce children to a variety of news skills and crafts. For example, children learn new artistic skills, such as Mandalas and enjoy learning to sew.

Children have lots of opportunities to be physically active. For example, they enjoy running around outside and kicking balls. There are fewer opportunities in the after-school club session for activities outside, such as team games.

However, this is offered more regularly during breakfast club.Children comment that they have fun at the club and feel safe there. They have a secure understanding of the rules in place and what to do in the event of an emergency.

For instance, children know the procedures to follow in the event of a fire. Staff practise fire drills and discuss them with the children regularly.The manager continually strives to provide an excellent service.

The needs of staff are considered extremely well. Staff have regular supervision and attend weekly team meetings. They discuss any issues about their workload, the children they care for, training and their ongoing suitability to work with children.

The manager involves staff and children in self-evaluations and ensures that their voices are listened to. However, there is scope to increase the opportunities for parents to help to identify future improvements that benefit the children attending.Children are taught about how to respect their planet and living things.

This is demonstrated as older children create homes for hedgehogs out of recyclable materials. They show a strong understanding of what the hedgehogs might need to survive, such as food and water.Staff provide healthy, nutritious snacks that children independently help themselves to.

Snack times are sociable, and children sit and talk about their day with their friends and the staff.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff have an in-depth knowledge of the action to take if they have a concern about a child's welfare.

They attend training to keep their knowledge and skills up to date. The managers and staff work closely with the school, and information is shared if concerns arise about a child's safety or well-being. The manager implements robust recruitment, selection and induction procedures.

This helps her to check that staff are suitable and fully understand their role and what is expected of them. Thorough risk assessments are completed to keep children safe. The premises are secure and there are effective systems to make sure that only known adults collect children.
