Summary of key findings for parents

The provision is good • The manager works hard to build effective partnerships with parents. For instance, she invites parents to coffee mornings and a parent play hour.

Staff inform parents of their child's development and next steps in learning. This helps to provide continuity of care in meeting children's needs. • Staff interact well with children as they make marks in multi-coloured sand with their fingers, animal figures and brushes.

Staff encourage children to recognise letters that they draw in the sand. This helps to extend children's early literacy skills further. • A strong key-person system is in place.

Staff know children well and support them to ma...nage their behaviour effectively. Children know the rules and routines well and inform others that it is time for 'empty hands', when they need to stop, put toys down and listen to staff. • Children practise their small movements, such as using scissors to cut card and threading dried pasta onto string.

This helps children to develop their fine physical skills, necessary for future learning, such as for holding a pencil and early writing skills. It is not yet outstanding because: • Children do not have opportunities to recognise the language they use at home in the resources available. • Management have not fully embedded plans to help staff complete accurate assessments and record children's progress precisely.
