What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Staff provide a lively, fun environment for children before and after their school day. Staff know children well and understand the different types of activities children may need at these times. As a result, children say they enjoy their time at the club and it provides them with activities they like to take part in.

Children enjoy a paper aeroplane design and flight competition. There is much excitement and friendly competition as they help each other to design, modify and fly their planes. Children teach staff how to create a design that they think will fly well.

Younger children ask older children if what they are doin...g is right and whether they can help them to make the correct folds in the paper. Children learn to manage their emotions as they discover that their planes do not fly as far as they would have hoped. Children show pride as they each receive a sticker from staff for 'a good job'.

Staff have clear expectations for children's behaviour, for example, when they are being collected from classrooms and led back to the club. Children behave well and clearly understand and respect the routines in place to keep them safe.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

There are friendly, relaxed and caring relationships between staff and children.

Children work together, for example, to build a train track with specific features or to complete a giant floor puzzle. Staff sit at children's level, interact well with children and support their play. Children show pride in their achievements, for example, as they construct with irregular shaped wooden blocks or complete a challenging puzzle within a specified time.

There is clear communication between club staff and class teachers, so that any pertinent information is passed on to best support the welfare of each child.Children are independent. They hang their own coats, jumpers and bags up in the club's cloakroom.

They recognise when they have forgotten items and left them accidentally in their classroom, which shows they are beginning to take responsibility for themselves. Children manage their own snacks brought from home and they understand the rules in place to promote their safety while doing this.Staff know children well, including their specific needs, family backgrounds, individual personalities and interests.

This helps them to tailor the club's care to children's individual needs, especially those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.Parents are very happy with the provision the club makes for their children. They say that communication is good, and the staff are caring and approachable.

Staff say they feel well supported by the manager and provider. Their personal and professional development ensures their own safety as well as opportunities to keep their knowledge, especially about safeguarding, behaviour and first aid, up to date and refreshed. The provider has clear oversight of the provision and offers regular support to staff.

Robust recruitment and induction procedures ensure that only those suitable to do so, work with the children and that all staff understand their roles and responsibilities.
