What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children arrive at the end of their school day and eagerly seek their friends. They engage happily in play. There are a wide range of age-appropriate resources that children can independently access.

Staff use their knowledge of what children do at school or their interests to plan activities. For example, staff and children had previously discussed Chinese New Year. Children ask staff if they can make a dragon.

Staff use this interest to engage children in an art activity. Children draw carefully around their hands and cut out the shapes to make the dragon's scales. Staff support the younger children well if they need hel...p with the activity.

Children of different ages socialise and work well together. They build various constructions, made from small building blocks. They then use the constructions to fuel their imaginative play with each other.

Children enjoy role play in the home corner, changing and feeding their 'babies'. There are opportunities for children to sit quietly if they wish to. For instance, some elect to sit and draw, while others start their homework.

Children are confident and happy in their play. They communicate well with each other and with staff. The noise level is well controlled, ensuring a calm atmosphere.

Staff praise children throughout the session. Children are eager to show staff their creations and invite staff into their play.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children engage in a range of activities indoors and outdoors.

They use the school playground to run around and burn off their excess energy. If the weather is bad, children can also access the school hall for physical play. Outdoors, children develop their skills and coordination as they use the balancing beams and rope bridge to carefully navigate the obstacle course.

Older children support the younger ones as they cross the course, showing them kindness and consideration.Staff are good role models for children's behaviour. Children behave well and support each other.

They tidy up when staff ask them to, and they all help each other with this task.Managers and staff know all the children well. As younger children come from nursery, they seek out familiar staff and receive a cuddle of reassurance and a warm welcome as they enter the club.

Staff ask children about their day and discuss any issues they may have. This gives children a safe space to discuss things, if they need to, ensuring their emotional needs are being met.Children are provided with a healthy snack.

The older children help staff prepare snack, such as toast, crackers and vegetable sticks. Snack time is a social time.Children sit at tables and talk to their friends.

Staff sit and have meaningful conversations with children.Managers and staff work well together. Staff feel well supported.

Staff understand their job roles and seamlessly ensure the effective running of the club. Some staff also work in the school and playgroup. This allows the children to have familiarity and consistency of care.

Partnerships with the host school are strong. Staff collect younger children from their classrooms. This enables them to gather information about the children's day at school and offer additional support if necessary.

If the school teachers have any strategies to support children, staff continue these in the club. This ensures that they all work together to support children.Parent partnership is good.
