This provision does not meet requirements The provider has failed to ensure that staff understand about keeping children safe from harm. This compromises children's welfare.

Nevertheless, children are happy and excited as they arrive at the club. They play with a range of activities and games that staff offer, based on their interests. Staff provide an environment which is fun and encourages children to explore or relax after their day at school.

Children take part in a good range of physically active games, such as rugby. They enjoy challenging each other to see how far they can throw the ball. Children play energetically and with lots of enthusiasm.

They thoroughly enjoy running around outdoors in the fresh air. Staff provide opportunities for children to be imaginative and creative. Children design and make pictures from natural materials.

They enjoy quiet activities, such as drawing and mark making. Children are well behaved and polite. They follow rules and respond to directions from staff.

Children form warm relationships with staff, who treat them with kindness and respect. This helps children to feel valued and welcome.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The provider has not made sure that a staff member with a current paediatric first-aid certificate is present at all times.

This means that children's health and safety are not assured in the event of an accident or an emergency.The provider has not put in place systems to support staff or monitor practice on a regular basis. They do not check staff's understanding to ensure they are up to date.

This means any gaps in knowledge are not identified and staff do not receive support with professional development opportunities.Staff work well with parents to find out about their child's needs and interests. They exchange information about children's activities and time spent at the club.

This helps to promote good continuity of care. Parents comment that staff are friendly and approachable and their child looks forward to their time at the club.Staff are happy working at the club, and they show this in practice with the children.

They are good role models to the children in using appropriate language and conversation. Staff praise children's achievements. Children show their enjoyment as they smile and laugh together.

They have failed to ensure that staff understand the safeguarding policy. Staff do not have a secure knowledge of the 'Prevent' duty guidance. They do not know how to identify signs that a child is at risk of extremism or exploitation.

The policy for the use of mobile phones in the club is not followed and children have unsupervised access to the internet. This compromises children's safety and welfare.

What does the setting need to do to improve?
