They are eager to involve staff in their gam...es. Staff join in with children's play, extending and supporting it. Children are confident speaking to adults and asking for help.

They show a high level of respect towards staff and each other. Children respond well to the high expectations the staff set of their conduct.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children are offered a wealth of opportunities and activities.

They become excited as they make their own puppets. Children express their creativity as they paint and glue. Staff encourage children to use their imaginations as they use their completed puppets for role-play games.

Children benefit from the wide range of choices provided.Younger children are identified by wristbands, which allows staff to provide tailored support to this age group. Activities are adapted to suit the needs of children of all ages.

Consideration is given to how younger children's needs are met. Older children are reminded to take care of the younger children. This helps to create a safe and comfortable environment for all children.

Children behave well and follow instructions. Firmly embedded routines support their positive behaviour. For example, when it is time to listen, staff shout 'bananas' which children repeat, showing that they are listening.

Children's independence is promoted. They collect their own lunch boxes and open their own snacks. Children understand the routine and know to put their rubbish in the bin when they have finished.

This helps children to begin to take responsibility for their own needs.Leaders and managers have good oversight of which children are expected to attend. They take accurate records of attendance, which varies daily.

Staff are deployed well to support children at all times, particularly when there are children inside and outside.Staff undertake training to help them to fulfil their role. However, leaders do not always monitor that staff have up to date and in-depth understanding of policies and procedures.

Staff receive induction training when they are new to the setting. However, this is not always completed in a timely manner. This means staff do not always have the required knowledge of policies and procedures in order to implement them effectively.

The setting has an excellent partnership with the attached school. They regularly communicate with the school and seek advice from them where appropriate. The setting implements routines that mirror those used by the school in order to promote continuity.

This ensures a seamless transition for children, who already attend the school during term time. The staff team has a wide range of experience within childcare and education. This supports them in their role.

Staff utilise their individual knowledge and skills to provide a variety of experiences for children. For example, a range of sports opportunities are provided by an experienced coach. Children benefit from high-quality teaching as they take part in activities.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff know what signs of abuse to be alert to. They understand their responsibilities to report any concerns that they have.

Staff assess risks in the environment. For example, all staff are aware of outdoor areas where children may not be visible. The setting takes steps to position staff where they are able to provide adequate supervision.

Staff communicate well with one another, using a radio to keep in touch with groups who are outdoors. Children with allergies are well catered for. For example, although children provide their own food, dietary requirements are displayed for all staff.
