What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements This is a warm, welcoming, and vibrant club, where staff support children to feel happy, safe, and independent. Children demonstrate high levels of enthusiasm and self-confidence.

For example, they quickly hang their coats on pegs and place their bags in baskets before choosing their tea. Staff have clear expectations of children's behaviour. They regularly refer to the club rules as they promote positive examples demonstrated by children.

As a result, children are respectful of their peers and environments. Staff have ensured that children are incredibly comfortable and relaxed at the club. For example, younger children e...njoy snuggling under a blanket in the 'book nook' as they relax after a busy day at school.

Staff provide warm and sensitive care to children, using their deep knowledge of children to pinpoint what support they need. Older children sit on a bench and read for pleasure. They express how much they enjoy having the time to read at the club.

Children have fun and show enjoyment as they engage in the wide range of activities that staff have provided. For example, they delight in making autumn pictures in the 'creation station' and sell tickets to watch movies in the 'theatre box office'. Outside, staff encourage children to burn off energy as they balance on logs, play football, and run races.

As a result, children show highly positive attitudes to their physical play.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff work closely with the school. They share information that supports children to continue their learning while at the club.

Initial information gathering identifies the individual experiences children have and supports staff to extend these further. For example, staff provide opportunity for children to continue with their reading, and practise and repeat learning from the school day.Children show great respect for people.

The expected behaviours are deeply embedded because staff apply them fairly and consistently. As a result, children's behaviour is exemplary. Children take responsibility for their own behaviour and manage conflicts with little intervention.

Younger children speak confidently about what to do if they break resources and the importance of telling an adult. 'Magic words' such as 'kindness' help children to develop good manners and they are incredibly polite.Children are fiercely independent.

Staff encourage them to manage their belongings, placing their coats and bags in designated spaces. Children are provided with many choices about their time in the club. For example, they decide where to play and which resources they would like to use.

Older children act as role models to younger children. For example, they help them to make Remembrance Day cookies and show them how to change the colour of the icing.Children feel safe and secure at the club.

They comment that they feel confident to share any worries or concerns with staff. Furthermore, children describe how staff help to keep them safe from harm when using technology or playing outside. For instance, children explain that they know they must not leave the school grounds and they follow the safety rules when using the electronic tablets.

Children are developing the fundamental skills needed for the future. Staff consistently offer children high praise and encouragement for their efforts and achievements. As a result, children are developing confidence, self-esteem and resilience.

They demonstrate positivity and apply a 'can-do' attitude to their work and play.Staff introduce children to the world around them. For example, they enjoy topics, such as holidays, where they are invited to share experiences about countries they have visited.

Staff introduce children to a range of cultural topics. For instance, children learn about Diwali and make clay diyas as they explore the festival.Parents express their gratitude for knowing their children are happy and safe at the club.

They commend the staff for the excellent care and flexibility the club offers.Leaders use self-evaluation to understand how effective the club is in meeting the needs of the children. Staff place a high value on the voice of the child and regularly ask for their feedback via surveys.

Staff attend regular, meaningful training that further enhances experiences for children.

Safeguarding

Leaders have ensured that staff are clear about their responsibilities in keeping children safe. This includes the steps to take if they are concerned about the welfare of a child. Staff have a concise understanding about managing allegations.

Staff demonstrate confidence around when it would be appropriate to escalate concerns beyond the setting. Leaders know and understand the local area, and can identify where additional training is required to understand safeguarding topics, such as county lines.
