What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are very confident and happy in this welcoming environment. In the mornings, children enjoy a relaxing start to the day. They are offered breakfast and take part in activities of their own choosing.

In the afternoons, children enter ready to have fun after a busy day in school. Staff provide experiences based on children's current interests. Children select what they want to do while at the club.

Each evening they also have opportunity to choose to take part in a planned activity. Children have fun and there is plenty of laughter while they engage in the experiences and build relationships with staff and peers. Ch...ildren understand the club rules in place to support their good health.

For example, when stricter restrictions were in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, children stayed in year groups or with siblings to help reduce the risk of infection. Children select fillings to make their own sandwiches and fresh salad accompaniments. They eat well.

Children also enjoy plenty of activities outside. They benefit from fresh air and exercise when they play games, such as running races.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The provider, manager and staff have a clear vision for their club.

They work well together, value one another and adopt a culture of mutual respect. Effective supervision arrangements ensure that all staff understand their roles and responsibilities.The provider, manager and staff access varied training.

They conduct their own research to enhance their skills and support their professional development. This helps to provide a positive and inclusive atmosphere for adults and children. Staff are dedicated to providing a high-quality service for children and their families.

The provider, manager and staff work closely with the staff in the host school. The headteacher and deputy of the school say they appreciate the club and it is a successful addition to the school. Staff working at the club and school exchange relevant information about the children.

They keep parents up to date with any changes or news. There is also good communication regarding any vulnerable children and families, and this helps to ensure that consistent support and help is available, when needed.Parents are delighted with the care their children receive.

They are very complimentary about the staff and comment about the excellent service provided. Parents explain how happy their children are to attend and how children ask to stay later than their planned session because they are having so much fun. Parents are grateful to staff who have helped their children to settle into school so well.

Staff know the children and their families well. They focus on supporting children's well-being and provide plenty of opportunities for children to share their views and feelings.Children are caring and considerate of one another.

Younger children follow the guidance from older children who are happy to look after the younger ones. They play alongside each other well and enjoy varied activities with friends across the different year groups.Staff are good role models and adopt a similar approach to behaviour management that is in place at the host school.

Children are polite, respectful and considerate. They behave well and show that they feel safe and secure at the club.Children interact well with staff, chatting to them about their day at school and inviting them to join in with activities.

Children confidently speak with inspectors about how happy they are at the club and about what they enjoy doing.Children take part in experiences to help them to find out about diversity. For example, to mark Chinese New Year they enjoy making and tasting different types of Chinese food.

Staff use this as an opportunity to also help children to be aware of their health. They talk to the children about the importance of eating vegetables and children tell staff which ones are their favourites, while they cut up cucumber and peppers to eat.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

The club is a safe and secure environment for children. Robust recruitment and vetting procedures are in place to help ensure staff are suitable to work at the club. Risk assessments are effective.

Staff show vigilance and ensure any potential risks to children are minimised. Accidents and injuries are managed well by staff, who are qualified in first aid. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, staff ensure procedures are followed to safeguard children, families and staff.

When parents arrive, they stay outside and wait for staff to handover their children to them. The provider, manager and staff keep their knowledge of child protection up to date and communicate with the host school staff when appropriate. They understand their responsibilities to assure children's safety and to record and report any concerns about a child's welfare or a colleague's conduct.
