What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision is outstanding

Children flourish in the care of nurturing staff in the calm and welcoming nursery.

Staff put the individual needs of children at the heart of all they do. They talk to children with great warmth and enthusiasm. They regularly praise children to build their self-esteem.

In return, children smile broadly and feel proud of themselves. They are highly motivated to persevere with any challenges they encounter. Children are extremely well behaved.

They handle toys carefully and play very well alongside the other children. Staff are always nearby to support children. They are exceptionally skilful at developi...ng each child's understanding through thoughtful questioning.

Children become ready for the next stage in their education. They develop their independence and become increasingly skilled in each of the prime areas of learning. The curriculum is ambitious and designed to give children the cultural capital they need in life.

Staff are extremely mindful of children's experiences at home and how they can build on them in the nursery. They frequently use photos provided by parents to talk to children about family outings. They provide personalised activities to extend children's knowledge, such as teaching them about animals after a family trip to the zoo.

Children and their families feel valued and included. Leaders have an excellent overview of children's learning and are highly confident in staff's ability to deliver what children need to know next.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Leaders are incredibly passionate about the job they do.

They strive to provide the best care possible for the children in the nursery. The leadership structure within the nursery is highly effective. Room leaders organise and lead their teams extremely well.

Children benefit from a settled and calm environment where all staff are certain of the role they play.The curriculum is strongly rooted in the prime areas of learning. Staff use broad themes to give the children meaningful activities that allow them to develop their skills.

Children's experiences over time are coherently arranged. Leaders ensure that staff are confident in knowing what the planned activities are for the day. Communication between staff is excellent, which contributes to a consistent approach to learning across the nursery.

The key-person system is highly effective. Staff know their key children and their next steps incredibly well. They quickly identify children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and put in place individual learning plans to support them.

They work very closely in partnership with parents to support children who speak English as an additional language. For example, staff ask parents to create recordings of keywords to help them learn to correctly pronounce words in the child's home language.Teaching is consistently excellent.

Staff provide high-quality interactions that challenge children's thinking. They teach emerging mathematics skills particularly well. Staff have a deep understanding of how children learn and undertake regular training.

They are highly reflective and confidently adapt their own practice to make learning experiences even better for children. All children make superb progress from their starting points.Staff support children's communication and language skills exceptionally well.

They introduce new words frequently to children as they play. Staff provide numerous opportunities for children to sing and take part in action rhymes. Children become deeply immersed in listening to stories and sharing books with staff.

Staff consistently use sign language across the nursery to further extend early communication skills.Children are very confident in the setting. They have excellent relationships with staff, who are tremendously responsive to their needs.

Staff have extremely high expectations of children's behaviour and have put in place simple yet highly effective rules that even the youngest children can understand. Behaviour is exemplary.Staff teach children incredibly well about diversity.

They provide a rich set of experiences that teach babies and toddlers about how they are the same as and different from others. Children are immensely respectful of each other and increasingly confident in their own abilities.Parents are extremely happy with the care and education their children receive.

They comment that the nursery is a 'home away from home' and warmly praise the exemplary staff. Staff ensure that parents clearly understand how to support their children at home with their learning. Staff work very closely in partnership with parents to say when children have met learning milestones.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.There is an exceptionally strong safeguarding culture within the nursery. Leaders have robust recruitment procedures, including an induction period, to ensure that all staff are suitable to work with children.

They ensure that safeguarding information is easily accessible in all parts of the nursery. Flow charts of safeguarding procedures are displayed around the nursery. Each childcare room has a comprehensive folder containing information to support staff in recognising and recording safeguarding concerns.

Leaders ensure that safeguarding training and potential concerns about children are central to monthly staff meetings. Staff's safeguarding awareness is exceptionally good. Staff are highly confident in their knowledge of how to recognise if a child is potentially being abused.
