What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children enjoy caring, supportive relationships with staff. So that children can meet and walk to the club together, the younger children meet under the gazebo in the school playground until the older children join them.

This ensures children remain safe. Staff prioritise supporting children's health and well-being. They monitor children's individual dietary needs and make sure that they are met.

Children develop a firm understanding of the importance of good hygiene. They follow clear hand washing routines when they arrive at the setting and throughout the session. Staff consider children's interests and ideas when planni...ng an enjoyable range of activities.

Children build and extend skills that they are learning in school and particularly enjoy being creative. For example, they create their own treasure maps and delight in telling staff how they can reach the treasure. They show high levels of concentration as they create their own pirate hooks using paper cups and tin foil.

This supports their hand-and-eye coordination and enables them to build on their creative skills. Children are keen to be involved and show high levels of interest and involvement in their play. Staff are good role models and have high expectations with regard to behaviour.

Clear rules and boundaries support children to show kindness and respect towards each other.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff and children interact well and they have good relationships. Children enjoy lots of individual attention.

Deployment of staff and supervision of the children is good. Staff support children well. They encourage lots of discussion and answer questions children may have.

Staff promote children's health. Staff and children follow good hygiene routines at all times. They choose healthy foods for their snack and have the choice of four types of fruit and vegetables.

Children tell staff which fruits or vegetables that they would like to have at snack time. Staff ensure foods are suitable foods for children's individual dietary needs. They encourage children to have plenty to drink.

Children are happy and settled. They enjoy the activities available which are appropriate for this type of provision. Children love spending time outside being active.

They enjoy throwing balls to each other and to staff to practise their skills. Parents also comment that their children love spending time outside, especially when it is hot because they have 'Wet Wednesdays' when they can play with water balloons.Partnerships with school and parents are good.

Parents tell staff about their child's likes, dislikes and interests when they start at the club. Staff use this information to plan activities that interest and challenge children. Staff speak to teachers when they collect children and pass on any messages from school to parents.

They find out what children are learning at school and incorporate this into activities. This helps to ensure continuity between school and the club.The manager and his staff team work well together.

Recruitment procedures are thorough and the manager maintains information about staff suitability. Staff have annual appraisals and regular supervisions take place in-between times. Staff keep their knowledge of first aid up to date and deal with accidents appropriately.

Policies and procedures reflect the ethos of care that is in place within the club.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.The manager has attended relevant training and updated his knowledge of safeguarding children.

He has reviewed and updated the setting's safeguarding procedures. These include information about the wider aspects of safeguarding children, such as the 'Prevent' duty and female genital mutilation. The contact details for the relevant agencies involved in safeguarding children are also included.

The manager and staff have a good understanding of their responsibility to protect children from harm and neglect. Staff are aware of the procedures to follow if they have a concern about a child. They also know what to do should there be an allegation against a member of staff.

The manager and staff assess all areas used by the children and minimise risks. Security of the setting is good. Children are only released into the care of known adults.
