Summary of key findings for parents

The provision is good • Children of all ages are happy and confident, and show they feel emotionally secure. The strong key-person system is particularly effective in helping babies to feel secure and bond with staff. Older children have good relationships with staff and quickly make friends with each other.

They are curious learners who eagerly explore activities. • Children make good progress, relative to their starting points. The manager monitors the effectiveness of the learning programme very well to identify any gaps in learning for individuals or groups of children.

Staff address these very effectively when planning, so any gaps close quickly. • Thorough self-eva...luation helps the manager to prioritise improvements that have the most impact on learning and that promote good-quality outcomes for children. For example, changing the systems to record children's progress led to parents contributing observations of their children's achievements at home more frequently, to help inform assessments.

It is not yet outstanding because: • Activities that encourage children to learn to use technology for different purposes lack challenge for the older children. • Staff do not take full account of children's abilities during routine activities. For example, older children can already use plastic cutlery with control, but staff have not considered how they can extend children's skills in the use of tools and utensils further.
