What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children thoroughly enjoy their time at the club.

Younger children run out of their classrooms with excitement when they see the staff, at the end of the school day, knowing they are going to the after-school club. Children are all highly respectful of each other. Younger children thoroughly enjoy being given the opportunity to chose their own ice cream from the van, building on their confidence in talking with others.

Older children help younger ones with their ice creams and escort them back safely to the club room to eat them.Children's independence skills are further enhanced as they get themselves ready for a planned ...water fight. Children follow the rules, showing they remember what they have been taught.

All children squeal and shriek with delight as they play. Older children show younger ones how to work the water guns, allowing them all to have fun. Children are able to choose where they wish to play, and they are highly confident in asking staff for different resources to play with.

For example, children ask for junk modelling activities. Children have plenty of time to finish their creations, and when they are ready they join others with the water fight.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Leadership of the club is strong.

Leaders work closely with staff to identify any training needs. They also made sure that training that was completed during the COVID-19 pandemic was updated in line with regulations, once restrictions were lifted. All staff are highly consistent in their approach to behaviour management.

Staff take time to listen to the children and their needs to work out children's next steps. All children behave exceptionally well.Parents praise staff highly for the care they provide for the children.

Parents explain how their children cannot wait to go to the club, and how they beg to attend on their non-club days. Parents explain how they feel safe leaving their children at the club. They explain how the partnership working between them, the club staff and the school allows them to be fully aware of what is happening with their children.

Children explain how much they enjoy coming to the club. They say how they love to do activities such as slime play, as they are not allowed to do this at home. Children say they have lots of fun coming to the club, and they do not like it when they cannot attend.

All children are thoroughly aware of the rules of the club and routines. They follow these extremely well, with older children supporting younger ones, learning what to do. Mealtimes are highly social occasions with all age groups mixing together, talking about their day at school.

This further helps to support children's confidence, working on any anxieties they have picked up during the recent lockdowns.Staff are fully aware of the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on some children. They work with teachers and parents to support these children in helping them settle in and overcome any anxieties they have developed.

Staff are deployed effectively to enable children to be able to flow between the inside and outside play spaces. This enables children to chose where they wish to play, while staff keep children safe.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

All staff have a clear understanding of safeguarding. They are fully aware of their roles and responsibilities in reporting any concerns they have. Staff work together with teachers in the school to observe children, working together to keep children safe from harm and neglect.

Staff are fully aware of contextual safeguarding concerns in the local area, further helping to secure the safety and welfare of the children. Children are taught how to keep themselves and their peers safe as they play. This further enhances children's well-being.
