What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision is outstanding

Children thrive and make rapid progress in this welcoming, nurturing and inclusive nursery. Many children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) attend the nursery .

From the moment they arrive for the beginning of their session, children smile and show superb relationships with the staff team. They separate from their parents with ease, go to their rooms and quickly settle to an excellent range of stimulating activities. The manager and her staff team plan and implement an inspiring, tailored curriculum, which is highly focused on children's individual needs.

Each room in the nursery is plann...ed with clear learning intentions. For example, children thoroughly enjoy the time they spend in the loft space called 'Alfie's Attic'. They access soft play equipment specifically set up to develop their sense of movement and balance.

This helps children to coordinate their movements, enabling them to jump into the ball pit and roll around freely among the balls. Staff create an environment where children feel safe and learn to respect one another. Behavioural expectations are clearly communicated to children.

Despite the many challenges that some children face through their development, behaviour in the nursery is exceptional. Events, such as mealtimes, are calm, social occasions and are testament to the high expectations executed by the staff team.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The nursery manager has an exceptional overview of the curriculum and she knows what she wants all children to learn, including those with SEND.

She has a clear, strategic vision and places support for children at the heart of all nursery activities. Arrangements for staff's continued professional development ensure they have the same vision for the curriculum content and quality of teaching. Staff, including apprentices, say they benefit greatly from weekly focused time with the manager, who provides them with expert training to improve their teaching.

Children develop high levels of self-control. This is evident when staff mix ingredients together to make mini volcanos. Children are transfixed when coloured bubbles of water flow over the top of the cups and into the tray.

They show high levels of engagement, resisting the temptation to rush forward to see the experiment more closely for themselves.Staff plan a range of real life experiences in the nursery, which children benefit from. For instance, 'Cooper' the therapy dog spends time with the children outdoors.

Thorough risk assessments and high levels of supervision enable children to interact with the animal safely.Assessment of children's learning is rigorous and identifies areas where children need additional help. Additional funding is used exceptionally well to help children achieve the best possible outcomes.

Targeted resources, such as those to support children's speech and language, are obtained. This supports children's learning well and gives all children, including the most disadvantaged, the skills they need for their future lives.Partnerships with parents are superb.

Those parents spoken to during the inspection say the manager goes 'above and beyond' in supporting their children's development. They are full of praise for the way she is available for them and fully appreciate the support provided outside of nursery session times, if required.Exceptional communication exists between the manager, key members of staff and external professionals also involved with children.

Parents state that they have the full support of the staff team when they attend multi-agency meetings about their children, to ensure they receive the highest levels of support.Consistently high levels of support for children continued during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic lockdown. Staff engaged in communication with children and their families throughout this period.

For instance, through regular telephone calls and activity packs sent to children to support their learning at home. A high focus on children's health continued when they returned to nursery. Arrangements, including parents providing individual bags for children with essential resources, were successfully implemented.

The manager explained that this may be practice she will keep as she feels it is easier to maintain a continuous supply of the resources children need each day.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Utmost priority is placed on children's safety and welfare at the nursery.

Children play in a secure, well-maintained environment where staff are vigilant to any potential risks. Staff have strong knowledge of safeguarding. Regular training, including in-depth sessions from the manager, ensures their skills and knowledge are up to date.

Staff confidently describe the signs and symptoms that may indicate possible abuse to children. Staff know who to contact and where to obtain further advice to act upon any concerns they may have. Clear procedures for the use of mobile phones further assure children's safety.
