What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements The manager and dedicated staff team have a clear aim to provide children with a home-from-home environment.

The children are very keen to come to club and confidently interact with friends and staff. They know the daily routines, such as placing their bags and coats down in the designated spaces. The children enthusiastically explore and investigate the exciting range of activities on offer.

The older children watch out for the younger children, such as making sure they join in with activities and are able to reach their chosen snack at mealtimes. Children gain a positive sense of belonging and have high levels of self-es...teem and well-being.The table football is a firm favourite with the children.

They carefully keep a tally of who is winning and exuberantly celebrate when they score a goal. Staff immediately recognise when children get over-excited and the noise in the room builds. They remind the children of the after-school club rules, and children immediately calm their play down.

The children's behaviour is good. They are kind to friends and keen to share activities. For instance, they make sure that they take turns to have a go at jumping on the mini trampoline.

The children are busy as they socialise with friends and staff. There is a real sense of camaraderie and cooperation at the club.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The manager is passionate about her role in supporting children and their families.

The staff team work well together to ensure that they provide good-quality experiences for the children who attend. All staff state that they feel valued and very supported in their role. For instance, staff gain new qualifications and regularly complete online training.

Staff respect that children have had a busy day at school. They carefully plan play opportunities, such as outdoor play. The staff encourage children to explore in the fresh air as they exercise and have fun with friends.

For instance, the children enjoy playing team games, such as football and basketball. They are keen to practise new skills and movements as they roll hoops across the playground and hop and jump along the hopscotch game. Children have extensive opportunities to engage in physical play and understand the positive contribution it can make to their health.

The manager deploys staff effectively to make sure that all children receive the support they need. For instance, the staff use walkie-talkies to communicate with colleagues interacting with children in different areas of the club. Staff are vigilant and focus on maintaining children's safety and well-being.

Indoors, the staff make sure that the children can choose from a range of crafts and games. For instance, children engage in role-play activities. They play shops and use play money and credit cards to pay for items.

The children are considerate to others and make sure that they take turns being the shopkeeper. The skilled staff know the importance of allowing children's curiosity and imagination to lead their play.The manager and staff have established positive relationships with parents.

They have formed very strong links with the headteacher and school staff. For instance, staff communicate regularly with teachers and pass on any information shared from them with parents. This helps to ensure children receive a continuity of care and learning.

Parents speak highly of the staff and like the daily updates on how their child has been. They feel confident that their child is enjoying their time in the club.Staff have a genuine interest in the children's day at school.

They take time to listen to the children who wish to talk about what they have been doing. The staff provide the children with opportunities to relax and talk to friends. For instance, children enjoy making their own quiet spaces as they design and build dens using chairs and blankets.
