What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Staff have positive relationships with children and each other. They speak to children warmly and with respect. Children benefit from staff who are kind and know them well.

Staff take time to learn about children's likes and dislikes and use this information to support them well. Children are comfortable attending and are polite to staff, peers and visitors. Children enjoy attending the club and playing with their friends.

They settle quickly at their chosen activities when they arrive from school. They discuss what they would like to do and make choices each day from a suitable range of activities and equipment. For examp...le, they choose whether to play inside or outdoors.

They include their friends in their games and are caring towards each other. Children's emotional well-being is assured.Children behave well.

They understand the expectations staff have of them. They listen and respond well when staff ask them to do something. For example, they willingly move their chairs further away from the television screen and know this is to protect their eyesight.

Children who wish to sit quietly after a busy day at school have comfortable areas where they can relax and read a book if they choose to. This helps embed children's social skills.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The manager, who is also the owner, has very good oversight of the operation of the club.

She knows each staff member very well and provides them with individual support and guidance through effective supervision and coaching. Staff benefit from professional development and training. This supports staff to develop their knowledge further.

The manager places a high emphasis on the well-being of staff. She discusses their workload with them and ensures appropriate support is in place. Staff discuss areas for development of the club with each other and the manager, and their ideas and suggestions are implemented.

This ensures staff feel valued.The manager and staff work closely with the schools that children attend. They share information with each other.

They discuss and agree the arrangements for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities and for children with any emerging needs. The club is working with the local schools to help increase children's knowledge of personal safety when using the internet. This helps to ensure consistent information is shared with children between the setting and the schools they attend.

Children make choices each day about their activities. They discuss their ideas and suggestions with staff. The staff enable children to develop their ideas and imagination.

For example, they pose for children so they can draw a portrait of them, praising them when they have made a good attempt. They laugh and joke with children when the portrait is humorous. This helps develop children's self-esteem.

Staff encourage children's confidence to talk about their games. Children laugh and joke with their friends and with staff, which creates a fun atmosphere. Children encourage each other during a game of football and wait their turn.

Older children help younger children when they play in the hairdressing area. They talk about their toast and crackers at snack time, discussing which they like best. Children's communication skills are developing well.

Children manage their own personal care needs with independence. They know to wash their hands after outdoor play and before snack time in order to remove germs. They help each other hang up their coats and bags, or put on their coats for outdoor play.

Staff encourage children to wait patiently for children who may be a little slower getting ready for snack time. This helps children to learn to be kind and considerate of others.The manager obtains feedback from parents through regular questionnaires.

Parents are encouraged to make suggestions for activities they think their children may like. These are reviewed and implemented by staff. Parents receive feedback about their children's time at the club.

This ensures parents' views are taken into consideration and they are kept up to date.
