This provision meets requirements Children are safe and secure at this homely and good-quality club. As they arrive after a busy day in school, the air is filled with their chatter and with a buzz of excitement. Children are greeted by warm and caring staff, who have built trusting relationships with them.

This helps to nurture children's sense of belonging and ownership. Children take part in a wide range of activities, which complement their school day well. They have fabulous opportunities to play outside in all weathers.

Children excitedly run a lap of the field in the dark, shining the way with torches. Physical development and exercise is given high ...priority. For example, children climb trees and learn about keeping safe and taking reasonable risks.

Children have ample opportunities to learn about similarities and differences between themselves and others. They learn about cultures and customs and different festivals celebrated by a range of religions. Children dress up in multicultural costumes and learn about a range of artefacts used at the festivals.

For example, children learn about a 'menorah' candle holder used in Jewish celebrations and a cross which symbolises Jesus for Christians. Children have the opportunity to play quieter games and rest when needed. For instance, they play board games, colour and read books.

The younger children, who enjoy time to talk to their friends and to relax, appreciate this.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

There is a strong leadership team in place and together, they accurately evaluate the effectiveness of the club. The provider ensures that staff receive regular supervision sessions and training to support their professional development.

Staff talk enthusiastically about how they feel part of a strong team and that their ideas and opinions are valued. The staff's caring approach in the club helps children settle quickly back into school life as they returned from any absences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.Staff know the children exceptionally well.

They liaise effectively with the children's teachers and parents, in order to support all children's needs. This reflects in the children's exemplary behaviour as they enthusiastically greet staff and visitors and share stories of their day and home lives.Staff have very effective relationships with parents, who are very happy with the club.

Parents say how much their children enjoy attending the club. Staff build and maintain positive relationships with parents. They communicate with them daily.

For example, they pass on any information to parents about their child's time at the club and information from school. Staff share what children have enjoyed at the club when parents collect them at the end of each day. This helps keep parents fully involved and informed about their child's day.

Staff engage with children extremely well, developing meaningful conversations and listening to their views and opinions. They use explanations and gentle reminders to help children manage their emotions and consider others. This helps children to learn to behave well.

Children are confident communicators. They enjoy one another's company as they take part in activities, such as games and crafts. This helps children to build on their social skills.

Parents appreciate the positive steps staff took to minimise the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. They feel that, although they could not enter the club, they were kept well informed. Parents know that their children are fully engaged and regularly come home with plenty of imaginative art and other work.

Children understand the hygiene routines in the setting. They wash their hands as they enter and before they eat their snack. Staff offer a variety of fruit and support children to learn about making healthy choices.

The provider holds regular meetings with staff which helps them to feel supported and valued. Staff bring their experience and knowledge of childcare to the club. This helps them to develop good activities and experiences for children, such as a varied range of sport and craft activities.

Children's ideas and opinions are valued and listened to. For example, during a recent survey with children about what toys and equipment they would like, the provider resourced torches to enable the children to continue their play outside in the darker evenings. Younger children requested some new construction resources which they freely access, building wheeled toys and robots.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.There is a vigilant culture towards safeguarding children. All staff are highly trained and have an impressive understanding of their role in protecting children.

They have excellent knowledge of how to identify potential signs of abuse and the procedures to report concerns about a child's welfare. This includes protecting children from extreme views and using technology securely. Daily risk assessments provide children with safe environments to play and learn.

Emergency contact numbers are displayed and meticulously planned fire drills help children to learn about staying safe. The manager and staff update the safeguarding policy and other policies in line with changes to legislation or local authority requirements. Recruitment is robust and focused on ensuring the suitability of all staff who work with children.
