Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher has quickly attended to all the areas of improvement that were identified at the previous inspection in January 2018. The headteacher and subject leaders for English and mathematics check that the quality of teaching is good and they are helping to improve it further. Pupils are well behaved.

They are polite to adults and each other and get on very well together. They listen carefully in lessons and complete their work proudly. They move around the school sensibly and calmly.

Attendance is consistently high. Pupils greatly enjoy coming to school. A very large majority of parents and carers would recommend the school to oth...ers.

The curriculum is good and well designed, and helps pupils to build their knowledge. It gives pupils many much-enjoyed opportunities to develop their abilities in areas such as sport and music. Children get off to a good start in the early years.

They quickly settle in, play and learn together, and are well prepared for Year 1 by the end of the year. Phonics is taught well in both the early years and in key stage 1. As a result, pupils are able to read words confidently and high proportions of them pass the phonics screening check.

Pupils' overall achievement is good. They make good progress from their starting points and the proportions who attain the expected standards are broadly in line with the national average. The most able pupils are now achieving well in mathematics.

However, the proportions who achieve a greater depth of understanding in reading and writing are too low. Not enough apply their technical skills to what they write or can explain well inferences from complex texts. The governing body holds leaders to account overall but only recently has been provided with effective information about the pupil premium.

Governors have not been able to track the impact of the staff's support for disadvantaged pupils over the longer term.

Information about this school

This is a much smaller-than-average primary school. The proportion of pupils supported through the pupil premium is slightly lower than average.

The proportion of pupils from ethnic minority backgrounds is well below average. The proportion of pupils who have SEN and/or disabilities is below average. The school is designated as having a religious character and received a Section 48 inspection on 19 June 2014.
