Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The strong and passionate leadership of the headteacher has led to significant improvements since the last inspection. She is developing a strong senior leadership team. Its members share her vision and commitment to provide the very best education for every pupil.

This is a good school where pupils make good progress. Teachers accurately identify pupils' needs and work hard to ensure that lessons meet those needs. Disadvantaged pupils, together with pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities, make progress that is at least in line with other pupils.

This is because they receive high-quality targeted support and are enc...ouraged to develop as independent learners whenever possible. Leaders have developed a consistent approach to teaching across the school leading to outcomes that have improved significantly for all groups of pupils. Staff and pupils have worked together to develop the school's new curriculum.

Central to the school's values and everything it does, the curriculum successfully supports pupils to be motivated, engaged and challenged in their learning. Children in Reception get a good start to school, because the rich environment and good standards of care support them to make good progress. Since the last inspection, governors have developed a good understanding of their roles.

They now provide a good level of support and challenge to school leaders. Pupils are proud of their school and enjoy learning. Their conduct is usually impeccable.

They enjoy playing with one another and always check that nobody is left out. Pupils and their parents agree that the school is very caring and keeps pupils safe. Not all staff fully contribute to the high aspirations set by the school's leaders to improve the education for pupils at Curdridge.

Pupils do not make the best use of the phonics skills they should be taught to support them when they are reading. Consequently, pupils do not meet the expected standard in phonics by the end of Year 1. Teaching of phonics in the early years lacks the consistency in approach required to help children make better progress in reading and writing.
