Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher, together with leaders, ensures that pupils receive a good-quality education.

The quality of teaching, learning and assessment is consistently good. This has led to most pupils making strong progress in reading, writing and mathematics. Members of the governing body know the school well.

Governors contribute effectively to the strategic direction of the school. Leaders' work to promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is very effective. Pupils are prepared well to take on their role as citizens of modern Britain.

Pupils are well behaved, respectful and courteous. They told inspectors they ...feel safe and enjoy coming to school. Leaders have successfully created a caring and inclusive ethos where pupils are respected.

Although pupils are gaining sound knowledge, understanding and skills across the curriculum, some learning activities are not routinely challenging for pupils. This means that opportunities to deepen pupils' learning are sometimes missed. Occasionally, pupils do not apply their writing skills well to different subjects.

Sometimes, teachers' expectations of what the most able pupils can achieve in their writing are not sufficiently high. This prevents these pupils from making even better progress. The early years provision requires improvement because children do not make sufficiently strong progress from their starting points.

The quality of teaching is not consistently effective. Children are not well prepared to continue their learning into Year 1.
