About Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School
This is a good school The governing body has promoted a clear set of values which staff and pupils share. Governors are committed to school improvement and know the school well. As a result, they offer appropriate support to leaders and challenge them effectively.
Leaders have addressed the historic instability in staffing which led to weaker progress in reading and writing for some pupils in key stage 2. Current pupils make stronger progress in these subjects. Leaders ensure that pupils enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum.
They provide pupils with a wide range of extra-curricular activities which greatly support their learning in the classroom. In sport, pu...pils excel at a regional and national level. This is an inclusive school where adults value, nurture and support pupils.
Strong relationships between teachers and pupils contribute to effective learning. Pupils' behaviour is exemplary. They are kind and considerate.
The close links between the school, the church and the wider community greatly support their social, moral, spiritual and cultural development (SMSC). Children get off to a good start in Reception and make good progress. Their behaviour is exemplary, and they love to learn.
Pupils make strong progress in phonics in Year 1. Their results in the national phonics screening check are consistently above those seen nationally. In reading, mathematics and science, the attainment of pupils at the expected standard by the end of Year 2 is consistently higher than that seen nationally.
Pupils love to read. However, leaders do not make full use of the books in school to ensure that pupils have regular opportunities to read across a wide range of fiction and non-fiction genres. Pupils do not routinely have enough opportunities to practise their writing skills across the curriculum in key stage 2.
The proportion of pupils attaining the expected standard at key stage 2 is in line with the national average in reading and writing and above the national average in mathematics. The most able pupils are not challenged consistently well in key stage 2.
