Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is an inadequate school Leaders, including governors, have not taken swift enough action since the last inspection to improve the quality of teaching and learning. As a result, current pupils are not making sufficient progress. Leaders' evaluation of the school's effectiveness is overly generous.

Middle leaders have not been effective in their roles. This is because they have not had appropriate training to support them to improve teaching and learning. Teachers' expectations of what pupils can achieve are too low.

Teachers do not use what pupils already know to plan learning effectively. As a result, pupils do not achieve well and do not develop positive... attitudes to learning. Pupils' attendance is well below the national average.

Pupils do not make the progress they are capable of in phonics. Consequently, pupils in key stage 1 are unable to read fluently. This hampers their understanding and ability to make progress in their reading.

Teaching does not develop pupils' spelling, punctuation and grammar well enough. As a result, pupils' writing across a range of subjects is weak. In mathematics, pupils have limited understanding of how to apply their knowledge to help them reason and solve mathematical problems.

Leaders, including governors, do not ensure that additional funds for disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are used effectively. The academic outcomes for these groups of pupils are weak. The school has the following strengths Pupils are respectful, friendly, polite and courteous.

They contribute well to the school's welcoming atmosphere. There are strong relationships between pupils and adults, who care for pupils well.
