Information about this school

The school is smaller than most primary schools. The large majority of pupils are White British.

The proportion from other ethnic groups is average, but the proportion who speak English as an additional language is below average. The proportion of pupils for whom the school receives the pupil premium is well below average. This is additional government funding which in this school applies to pupils known to be eligible for free school meals.

The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs supported through school action is average. The proportion supported at school action plus or with a statement of special education needs is well below average. The school converted to become an academy school on 1 October 2012.

It forms part of the Syston and Thurmaston Education Partnership, an academy trust which comprises 10 local primary schools. When its predecessor school, also called The Pochin School, was last inspected by Ofsted it was judged to be good. The school meets the government's current floor standards which set the minimum expectations for pupils' attainment and progress in reading, writing and mathematics.
