This is a good school The headteacher and governors have high expectations.

Staff are clear about how ambitious leaders are and support them well. As a result, the overall effectiveness of the school is good. Systems for checking teachers' performance are good.

Astute use of professional development and support for staff have resulted in good teaching and good leadership. Teachers assess pupils' work accurately and use their knowledge to plan interesting tasks that engage pupils well in their learning. Teachers check pupils' work quickly and ask skilful questions to help pupils overcome misconceptions.

Teaching assistants are managed well to support p...upils very effectively. The extra training they have received has made sure that they can support pupils well. Pupils make an excellent contribution to their learning.

They are extremely proud of their work and persevere very well with tasks. All pupils spoken to say they are safe in school and they enjoy school. Pupils are very pleasant, polite and respectful to each other and to adults.

Attendance is excellent. Outcomes for all groups of pupils are good across key stages 1 and 2 in reading, writing and mathematics. Across a range of subjects, pupils are progressing well.

Children settle quickly into Reception and make good progress because of good leadership and good teaching. The curriculum offers many exciting opportunities for learning with pupils taking part in visits to places of interest that then contribute very well to their learning. Pupils have many leadership opportunities and take them on gladly.

Governors make a strong contribution to the development of the school. Parents and carers have a very high level of confidence in the work of the school. The school promotes spiritual, moral social and cultural education exceptionally well.

From time to time, pupils' work is not adjusted swiftly enough to provide additional challenge for pupils including in the early years. Very occasionally, the pace of learning is not judged well enough for the least able pupils to benefit as well as others in their learning. Pupils do not have sufficient opportunities to apply their mathematical skills in subjects other than mathematics.

Leaders and managers use a wide range of information to check pupils' progress. Some middle leaders have yet to develop their skills fully in analysing pupils' work and the quality of teaching in their areas.

The school was opened on 1 April 2014.

It was formed by merging Brownhill Infant School and Brownhill St Saviour's CofE (VC) Junior School. The current headteacher was appointed at the start of the new school. The school is much larger than the average-sized primary school.

The proportion of disadvantaged pupils supported through the pupil premium is below the national average. It is half the national average. Most pupils are White British.

Very few pupils speak English as an additional language. The proportion of pupils who have support for special educational needs and/or disabilities is below average. The proportion of pupils who have a statement of special educational needs or an education, health and care plan is below average.

The school meets the government's current floor standards, which are the minimum expectations for attainment and progress in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6. Children start the school in Reception. The school manages a breakfast club for pupils.
